I was just wondering- how do students get places at Somnium? Both scouted and applied for. Hope that helps ^.^
Suggestion; move the face claim to 'approved' Done!
Suggestion: In regards to face claim, we can have it so that people can reserve a PB before their app gets accepted that way, in the event that two people are about to app with the same PB, it can be known that the person who reserved it first gets it. Or something like that. And then they can post their claim after their is accepted. I'll try and work something out for that but I suppose that's what the PB bit in the app is for. I'll tell the member if someone else's pending app has the same PB. Maybe that'll work?
Oh.. just checking with you: We can double post if it is an IC journal, right? Yes, that's fine.
Hi. More questions to add to the pile Can non-humanoid dream forms/beings speak (either audibly or through some sort of telepathy)? Or is that up to us/the dream? Up to you/the dream. Depends on the player really.
I was trying to figure out how I wanted to play the gryphon. It boiled down to two options: 1. Always animalistic 2. Switching between the two depending on Kyle's state of mind at the time he enters the dream world and/or events that happen while he's dreaming. If he's angry, moody, etc or gets wounded while dreaming, the gryphon would be more animalistic. If he's in a good to neutral mood then the gryphon would be able to speak and understand when "people" talk to him.
Does that make sense? I have a feeling I'm mangling my description... I like the sound of option 2.

Ok I got another one! How do Dreamers pay/reciprocate in some way for things in the dream world? I mean there's Demens Inn for starters, but I'm also assuming there's some shops in Demens of some sort?

You're right, there are shops in Demens. As for the money... money in the Dream World is a very fickle thing. Most Dream Beings trade wares and so money rarely changes hands. However Students and Staff can sometimes come across coins in various areas of the Dream World (primarily the First, Second, Third, and Sixth Squares).
I imagine Dream Beings like Tallulah (hope you don't mind me using your character as an example Chris) trades using beautiful shells she finds in the sea. Most Dream Beings use curiosities as their currency.
In all honesty I haven't really fleshed out the economics of the Dream World but basically it's trading one shiny thing for another shiny thing (or beer as it would be in the Inn).

Ahhh right thanks for that. *begins the hunt for shiny objects* I also have a suggestion: could we have a place somewhere for a list of students that elected to take each non-core subject? I'm sure Niko might agree with me that it would be good to know who to expect when we post lessons and related items .

I suggest a subforum for Topic Trackers.. ^^ - that way it'll be much easier for people to keep track of which topics they're in.. [=

And it shall be done! You'll find it as a sub board in "Plotting Pages".

I don't know if this has been asked previously. I checked the FAQ, and it's not being mentioned there.
I understand that Somnium students know about the Dream World and that they can enter it, etc. etc. But once you're in the Dream World, in your Dream form, would you have any memory or consciousness whatsoever about your life in in the Waking world? Once you enter the Dream world, would you still know who you are in the Waking World or would you totally be taking over the life, history and character of your dream form knowing nothing about the Waking World?

I also had a question along the lines of Zan's. Can the students/staff be unable to control their dream forms?
I was going to have the Kyle/the gryphon as Kyle in complete control of both forms (like when you dream and are able to interact with the dream.) On the other hand, Cybele and Hatter are two completely different entities. Cybele would only be able to observe what is happening when Hatter is in control and communicate with him on a limited basis (kinda like watching a movie; you can yell at the screen all you like, but it doesn't change what the actors are going to do.) and vice-versa. Most of my "real" dreams wind up being like Cybele's which is where I pulled the idea from.

As both of your questions are similar I'll answer them together: Basically it depends entirely upon your character. Some Dream Forms remember their Real World self, some do not and some fall somewhere in between. As for characters being able to control their Dream Form, that also varies. I imagine more mature characters have a better grasp of their Dream Form (like Kyle), whereas younger characters may have their own selves overidden by their Dream Forms whilst in the Dream World as they're still not capable enough to take ahold of the other side of their personality. But of course, as I said, it varies.
Hopefully that answers it.

Yes, it does. Well, mine at least. In my case, Zan has yet to consciously realize that he's really lobbying for "justice" so he couldn't connect himself with Robin Hood just yet. (He's just having fun right now being his happy-go-lucky self.) I take it this may change throughout the course of the RP depending on how Zan's character develops.
Thanks, November!

One more. Is it safe to say that a dream form who doesn't know who he/she is in the waking world (and vice versa) is like a Dream Being who has no idea whatsoever of the Waking World?
I hope I'm not making this too confusing. =D

That's perfectly safe to say. In fact I imagine quite a few Dream Forms think they are true residents of the Dream World with strange time lapses in their memory. You're not making it confusing at all. As I said to Sen quite a few questions back: the more questions I'm asked about the RP then the more I can flesh it out.

Hello again, I've got some more questions, sorry Since Dream Forms can't exactly die, what would happen if they were put in a situation where death would occur (ex: drowning, falling off a really high cliff, being mauled by a particularly vicious chipmunk, etc.)? Barring any dream-like intervention, would the person just wake up or leave the Dream World? Can the person return to their Dream Form after the "death" (I'm assuming yes, but wanted to make sure)?

They would just wake up and leave the Dream World. The person can return after death, though the probability of them returning may decrease a little (or not at all, depending on however you want to play it out).

I have a question: From the map of the Dream world you made, it seems that the east of the Dream World is blocked off by the Marble Pillar Forest, and the south by the Sea. But the west and north just seem toe nd in the Mist. what prevents students and staff from leaving the Demens area via the Mist? Am I righ tin thinking that the mist is simply too confuysiing for them to navigate through? If so, isnt there a small chance one might blunder out of the Demens area? On that note, I dont suppose you'd be kind enough to tell us what lies beyond these points?
|

Post by November on May 17, 2009 18:38:32 GMT
You're right, it's possible to go beyond the Mists. However, considering what lies in the Mists (the infinity and confusion of all worlds) one tends to not know whether they're out of the Mists or still present in it. But I imagine plenty of things lie beyond the Mists, places similar to Demens and places not. Nessie came from a town beyond the Mists (or at least that's what I assume), Lucifer resides upon the edge of it... it's an endless realm of possibility.

Question! I've read through this thread and have a half-answer to my question, but I was wondering if the dream form and the real form (I suppose you'd call it...?) can be two entirely different people. As in, two people living in one body, where in the dream world one is in control of the body and in the real world the other is in control, if that makes any sense. I have a vague idea for a character like this, but I didn't want to make an app without checking first if it would be alright

That's perfectly fine. Quite a few members have similar characters with a dream form that is a completely separate being than their real world form. It'd be interesting to see some multiple personal-esque characters developing in School of Dreams.
I'm looking forward to seeing how your character turns out ^.^

*Raises hand* Me next!
No people get rest while in the dream world? Jeremy was speaking of the fact that Metella looked like she didn't get any sleep. Well she was in the "Dreamworld last night" (Supposedly, I'm trying not to have too many threads.) ((Ya right)) Would that mean that she had no rest in the dream world? Is a persons energy restored in the dreamworld as they sleep. I wanted to know...
LONG DAY!

I was seeing this more like his personal interpretation of her behviour and how she appeared to him when she entered the staff room, but I can change that if you donĀ“t like it.

You do have somewhat of a rest but not as much as you would during a proper sleep. It also depends on how hectic your time in the Dream World was. The more hectic a time your Dream Form had in the Dream World then the more tired you would feel when you wake up.

Hi there I'm new here. xD
When a student gets injured in the dream world I understand that they're not physically injured when they wake up but when they return to the dream world would they still have that injury or would they be completely healed?
|
|
|
Post by November on Jun 3, 2009 12:33:34 GMT
Welcome to the forum Shou and good question. I was stumped for a little bit.
I suppose they would be healed but perhaps they would feel the remnants of the injury (like they would do in the real world) when they return.

Okay so I was wondering if you could be in more than one RP at a time. So like, if I was in the Dream World in one rp... could I be in a class talking with someone in another... or something like that. And okay this is like the third time I've edited this post but anyway, me and Shou are totally confused with the Plot Pages... so we thought we might suggest that we have like a thread explaining what on earth to do and such to make one and explaining what they are and stuff like that. It would be sooo awesome, because it's so confusing Dx

Oooh ooh I wanna make the explanation thread! ;D I might fail, but I remember how bewildered I was at plot pages originally, so it'd be awesome to know I helped you guys with it!
