appearance

Cybele inherited most of her physical traits from her mother: brown eyes, dark brown/black shoulder length hair (usually worn pinned up,) slim 5’3” on a good day, not very muscular but still in shape. Her only distinguishing feature is a birthmark on her left shoulder blade.

She tends to wear a bright colored blouse and long dress regardless of the weather. Cy always has three items on her person: a pen, a small pad of paper, and her harmonica.

Likes: Playing the harmonica, reading, stargazing, puzzles, learning, storms

Cybele was raised to be polite and attentive. She enjoys being around people even if she is not interacting with them directly. Her outlook on life is annoying optimistic and she is always looking for new things.

Dislikes: Licorice, being told she can’t do something, milk, loud noises, sunrises

Fears: heights, Losing her hearing, failure

While not actually shy, Cy may chose to not “talk” to people. She is fluent in French and LSF (French Sign Language) but is still learning English and BSL (British Sign Language.) She is extremely self conscious of this fact and can become ashamed or frustrated if she mistranslates or is unable to understand a nuance / slang.

HISTORY:
From the moment she was born, it was apparent that something was different about Cybele. Cybele entered the World silently rather than with the usual cacophony of screams and crying of a newborn. Diagnosis: mute due to genetic defect.

Cy had a very nice childhood. Her parents were caring and patient with her. Cybele’s mother homeschooled her until she was 10. Three times a week, Cybele attended a private school where she was taught LSF, French, and to a lesser degree, English. While at the school, Cybele picked up tips on lip reading and understanding body language.

When she turned 11, Cybele decided she was ready to attend regular school. She didn’t mind that the other children thought she was different initially; she was too busy absorbing as much knowledge as possible. Cybele’s favorite class was biology. The inner workings of the human body, in particular of the brain, fascinated her.

Around Cybele’s 15th birthday, her father was offered a lucrative position in an English law firm. Within a month, the family had moved across the English Channel and Cybele began attending Somnium Academy.



dream form

Cy’s dream form is a hybrid version of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland (Think Angel Sanctuary or American McGee rather than Disney.) He embodies many of the "darker" and unusual aspects of human behavior which fascinate Cy. While not exactly crazy, the Hatter does tend to speak in nonsense and riddles. Cy and Hatter share the same hair style and pale skin color. Hatter is tall and lanky. He always has a top hat and a cane with him.

Cybele is unable to control Hatter at all. When she attempts to interact with him, Hatter believes he is merely talking to one of the many voices in his head. He often refers to her by mundane names and dismisses the babble about a school and another world. He believes the gaps in his memory have been caused by doing nothing particularly interesting at the time.
