Defining Characteristics
- Overweight
- Goth
- 5'7" and 184 lbs
Merrie is a girl with very distinct curves. Though her beauty is not conceptual and is often ignored, she has made a huge effort to smash her self-esteem issues, often wearing low cut blouses and the hip goth style clothing. Her body language is full of confidence--she walks with her head held high, her hips swaying, her chest thrust forward. Her hair is dyed such a black that it highlights raven blue in the direct sunlight, even though her dusty brown eyebrows make the dye apparent. Her eyes are always circled in dark, black shadow, settled around the bridge of her nose--the only thing on her face that was truly without flaw, she thought--and her petal pink lips tend to settle into that alluring smirk. Her clothes are gothic, corsets and lace and fishnet galore. Her hair is usually kept long and down, with short bangs cropped above her eyebrows framing her face and often hiding her dainty ears.personality
Likes
- Chocolate
- Punk music
- Band
- Video games
- Dream world
Merrie loves the dream world with a passion almost equal to the one she shares for music. Inside it, she's not herself, and while she'd never admit it outwardly, she doesn't really like being her. Being able to pretend inside a world that is real for some people but not for yourself is such a grand feeling of power. Her loud mouth and boisterous showing of confidence cover up the insecurities she finds in herself, creating a force of charisma that is loved or hated and very rarely ignored.
Hates
- Stereotypes
- Prejudice
- Conservatism
- Cowardice
Where she lacks self-esteem, Meredith makes up in conviction. She's decided very clearly what she won't tolerate, and she makes sure that those who display it are rewarded with nothing other than her backside. While, like all kids her age, she hasn't grown up yet and still makes mistakes based on her emotions, she tries her best to hold true, because it's the only thing about her that she believes she has better than anyone else.
Seeks
- Love
- Truth
- Self-Esteem
Like all young children, Meredith is desperate to find someone to love her unconditionally. Because of her past, she has developed a gruff sense that nobody could love her except her best friend. She hasn't quite figured out what she's going to do with herself in the future--and the future seems to be finding her fast--but she knows she has to somehow get over the fact that she doesn't like waking up. She's mused about becoming a janitor here, but she's pretty sure the teachers would catch on and everyone who catches on wants to do "interventions" for addictions.family & history
FATHER: Thomas Beckendorf, age 53
MOTHER: Rheis Beckendorf, deceased
SIBLINGS: Robert Duvall, age 13
OTHER FAMILY: None
HISTORY:
Meredith was born to a normal family, she figured. Her father and mother cared a lot about her, but they didn't really seem to like each other much. She figured that was pretty average--none of her friends parents seemed to like each other much, either. She had a brother at age five, and her mom and dad seemed to like him a lot, so she didn't pay him much attention until the drinking set in.
At 10, her father started drinking. The fights between he and her mother got so loud she'd pull up loud music to drown them out. She started to pay attention to her brother, mostly because he always wanted to come hide in her room when the fights started. They went out one night in the car that year after a big fight, her dad driving. Karma seemed to be absent in this picture, because when the accident happened, only irony grabbed hold. Dad had been sober; and they had been sideswiped on the passenger side, killing their mother.
For a while, their father stopped drinking. He claimed he'd start over--try again. And it worked for half a year before he sunk back into his old habits, but with nobody to fight with, someone else was going to have to be chosen to be the brawling buddy.
When she turned 14, she noticed her father yelling at Robert and watched him reach to hit him. Unlike anything she had seen from her father before, the amount of rage startled her and she didn't move for the first two direct hits he laid across her brother's body. But then he threw the bottle, missing and slamming into the wall and headed for her brother's slumped body when she ran full tilt and slammed into him like a linebacker, sending her father into the kitchen counter and to the floor wheezing for the wind she knocked out of him. Startled by what she had done, she grabbed her brother's arm and pulled his stumbling form into her room and locked the door. She didn't come out until her father stopped beating the door and screaming her name.
Over the next couple years, she tried to bring attention to the abuse subtly, because to cry out about it outwardly seemed only to incur a wrath from the community that apparently didn't want to believe there was anything wrong with their middle-class section of town. Everyone just said Rob was a rambunctious kid and she was a pathological liar. Her father wouldn't touch her, so she tried something different.
She and her best friend set her up to look abused sexually, and this time, when she outcried, she had the "proof". Rushed away from her father and into the system, Meredith wasn't sure if she regretted her decision when they were finally picked up by a couple moving back to England. She would be moved far away from the only person who ever mattered to her--and for a minute, and only that minute, she turned glaring eyes on her brother.
It took only his brown eyes looking back at her with adoration to know that the misplaced aggression had to be quelled. But while she didn't turn the aggression on him, she called her friend and misplaced everything onto herself. A thorough talk and reassurances that they would be together through phone and internet and a swearing from her new foster parents later, she finally agreed without complaint to leave her country.
But she didn't fit in well in England. She was smart, but she didn't talk like anyone else, and she was overweight while it seemed like nobody else was. Somnium, the school for gifted outcasts, she called it, was the last school within distance. They set her up a dorm Sophomore year, at her ardent request. She couldn't come home every night and still get the full benefit of the school's experience, she said, and they were eager to please.
Truth was, she was addicted.. and she hasn't stopped being so.dream form
Meredith's dream form is Earl Cain Hargreaves from Godchild and the Cain Saga. An avid reader of anything and all things horror since she escaped her father's "clutches", she became attracted to him as her 'manga persona'. Thinking herself the viscious protagonist that will bend the rules to do what's right, Cain is the perfect person to portray her inner idea of herself. Often, she manifests a "Riff" persona, Cain's close personal friend, and interprets him as her best friend, although she isn't here.
