Latin Class {All year 11 students}

[Metella Pope]

(Just to let you know, I will be God modding my characters for small comments.)

Metella was nervous. She was probably more nervous than her students. She took out her key and turned into the knob. The door creaked open and looked inside. Posters as far as the eyes could see, her signs that she made that said, "Let's have fun!" The board was blank, so Metella grabbed a piece of chalk and contemplated what she would write.

As the chalk scratched against the green board, Metella focused quite obsessively on the loops in her last name and then wrote a quick message. she stood back and examined the words:

Meus nomen est Magistar Metella Pope
Exspectata Latin Scholasticus. Utor Vestri!

She smiled and sat in her chair. Hazelnut coffee was already sitting there from last night. She took a long sip and then crossed her legs so that she looked sophisticated. And not awkward, and not nervous. She knew she looked like an idiot, but anyway.

She watched the room and wished she had a pizza instead of a class to teach. She would of place the box on her desk and then ate it all. Or even better... A bucket full of scampi. As she fantasied she forgot where she was... she was in Italy...

[Serinthel Haberin]

Serin more or less limped into her Latin classroom, too busy thinking about how stupid she was than about how there was a new Latin teacher.

"Seriously, who walks straight into walls?" she mumbled to herself, holding her aching shoulder. With her other arm she balanced her school books and Cain. He was still laughing. For just a moment, she considered throwing him against the chalkboard. She smirked.

Falling into the first seat that struck her as "fun", she glanced at the chalkboard. "May us, no men ist Magister Metella Pope..." she said aloud, trailing off. Pronunciation wasn't a strong point of hers. She groaned. The third Latin word she'd ever seen (est) and she already had her mind back in the German classroom. It never occured to her how much the languages in this continent would relate to eachother and how much it would probably confuse her. Lovely.

You really should think before you sign up for your classes, she heard Cain say in the back of her head. She ignored him in favor of staring at the new teacher who she just recalled was well...new. Serin leaned forward in her seat. Was her teacher really drooling...?

[Metella Pope]

The first student startled Metella. She was thinking about her first visit to the Vatican City. "Morning!" She yipped. Her hands scattered around her desk and found a stack of handouts, full of all of there homework, worksheets, books and noted... For the rest of the year. She was an over achiever, but she needed the job. Metella rolled her eyes as the girl stumbled over pronunciation. "May-ohs. Ohs" she mumbled, making the noise of the proper pronunciation.

"Uhm.. Uh Welcome!" She quickly grabbed the chalk and scribbled under the words:

My Name is Teacher Metella Pope.
Welcome Latin Scholars.

She erased the Utor Vestri, and turned around to smile at the girl, silently. Was that a teddy bear in her hand? Anyway. "Hi, I'm Mrs. Pope..." She sat quickly, she hadn't taught before today. As she sat she flipped out of her seat and landed face down on the ground.

She shot upward and gave a pleading look to her. "Please don't mention that. Pull out your agendas or schedulers or whatever and write this... Please."

She turned around and Scribbled some more, dusting herself when she was done and the board read:

Mt. Vesuis
A common Roman house
The Arts of Latin
Latin Clothing
Another Topic approved by me.

She sat on the table and smiled. then lean over and stuck her head in her hands. She sat over by the girl. "Am I doing good so far?"

[Serinthel Haberin]

"Oh my," Serin said, blinking at her teacher. She'd never seen someone do that before.

The teacher seemed nervous. Nervous was probably a vast understatement. But it was okay, she was nice. Or so Serin thought. It's not always easy to get a good grasp on someone's character after knowing them for a full two minutes. She hadn't yelled at her about Cain yet though, so that was definitely a plus.

Serin sat him up in her lap so that his arms and head was leaning on her desk. She's nice. he said, mimicking her thoughts.

"Please don't mention that. Pull out your agendas or schedulers or whatever and write this... Please." She's adorable![/i] Serin thought, grinning. She held her fingers up to her lips and metaphorically zipped them. "My lips are sealed. And my schedule's out." She copied down everything on the board almost robotically. Her mind started to tick. Maybe she'd ask to do a project on that mountain village in Switzerland that still spoke a dialect of Latin...

The teacher stood by her desk and Serin looked up, looping her arms around Cain's stomach. It was a nervous habit. "Am I doing good so far?" she asked. Serin nodded quickly and offered a weak smile. Smiling was definitely not a strength for her.

"Maybe... you should wait for the rest of the class to get here before you start the lesson? I'm 15 minutes early," Serin said, blushing a little.

[Metella Pope]

"Right right." She looked at her watch. It was 9:45. "Oh my gosh." She placed her hands on he rface, and began to bawl. "What am I... supossed to do? I've never worked a day in my life... This is my first job, I'm only 24, I haven't seen my kids in 2 monthes." She watched her student. "Whats.. *sniff* Whats your name?" She gave a weak smile. "I'm giving you an A and unlimited excuses for being late if you keep this a secret... I supossed to be the hardcore new teacher."

She looked at her. "You are going to be my spy, and my teacher and everything... I need some help. Tell me about the school. Honestly." She gnawed on her nail. "Michal..." she whispered.

[Serinthel Haberin]

Serin was.... baffled to say the least. She had a hard enough time carrying normal conversation, but comforting someone....that was the most foreign thing. Ever. Other than maybe Egyptian. Serin stood from her seat and put her hand on Mrs. Pope's shoulder. She hasn't seen her kids in two months, Liebchen, be gentle, Cain said. She smiled, she loved it whenever he spoke German to her.

"What's...*sniff* What's your name?" her teacher said, trying to give a smile. "Serinthel Haberin, but just call me Serin. This is where I'd say my friends call me that but well... I only have him," Serin said, nodding her head towards the stuffed animal under her arm. Serin could have rambled but the teacher gave her one of those determined, I have an idea looks. Serin was frightened.

"You are going to be my spy, and my teacher and everything... I need some help. Tell me about the school. Honestly."

Today was most definitely the strangest experience Serin had ever had with another human being. "W-Well... Maybe you could get some pictures of your kids in here to start with! I don't know if it'd make you feel better, but always having Cain with me makes me feel better,"She said, squeezing him a little tighter. "As for the classes....Start the first day speaking the language! It's fun and easy. Don't speak a word on English, but just use a variation of the same question like.... Hm..." Serin didn't know how to describe it. She tapped her finger on her chin.

Idea. She ran up to the chalkboard and wrote:

"My name is______"
"Her name is______"
"Your name is________"
"What's your name?"

"Something like that!" she said pointing at the board. "But in Latin. The class will pick up on it, once they start hearing names that they already know and they'll recognize the root word after you say it so much."

((OOC - I'm bad at explaining it but my teacher does this irl and he's fantastic!)

"As for the school..."Serin said, biting her lip,"I can't really help you. I don't know anyone that well... I sort of...um... live in my own world?" But the teacher looked distracted. She was gnawing on her nail and she whispered something that Serin didn't quite catch. She misses her lover, just look at the look on her face. Serin wouldn't know that look, but she still felt the killer urge to hug her teacher. So she did.

[Metella Pope]

"Serin, You're a pupa... a doll." She smiled. "I'll get some pictures, mom will take them." She stood and dusted her dress, it was a light pink color. She marched with as much confidence as she could to the board, erased it for the 3rd time, and then wrote on the board:

Meus nomen est_____________.
Tu nomen est___________.
Suus nomen est _____________.
Quis est tu nomen?

She rummaged in her desk and pulled out enough index cards for every desk. She ran back by Serin and checked her watch. 9:50. "Serin, will you copy what's on the board on your card? I'll be placing these around." She stood and put one on every desk. She then turned and smiled at Serin, hands griping the rim of the board. "Serin , gratiae. Lets instruo pro ordo iam."

She wrote on the board again, beside the words she had already written.

Class, please write the information above on the index card on your desk and speak only Latin. If you need a word, word, use your textbook.

She walked over to Serin and gave her a quick hug. "I owe you 12 A's."

[Serinthel Haberin]

"Pupa is the most awesome frigging word ever..." Serin whispered to Cain as she watched her teacher bustle around with the cards. Who would've thought that you of all people could give someone confidence? She scowled at her stuffed animal. "You're ruining the moment, be quiet." And she tucked his head under her arm. He could still talk, but she stil felt a little better.

Mrs. Pope gave Serin a quick hug and promised her twelve A's. Serin grinned and sat down and started copying the latin words. This was going to be a fun year. Now, if the other students would hurry up and show up to class. There wasn't much time left and Serin needed to make sure the people she was stuck with wouldn't interfere with where she wanted to sit.

It was the most obnoxious thing whenever one single person could change the entire feel of a classroom, for the negative that was.

[Victory James]

Victory stomped in... literally. The fact that she hated Latin, and she had a new teacher weren't a good combo. She sat behind Serinthel, starring in the back of the girls head. "A teddy bear... and girl" She propped up her boots on the back of Serin's chair, the heels brushed her cheeks, almost cutting her. "Sup teacher... What's your name, and whats the Card for."

Metella pointed to the board with a duh attitude, then gave an apologetic smile to Serin.

"Oh." Victory spat. "E plurbis... ya." She smiled and propped her hands behind her head.

[Serinthel Haberin]

"Called it," Serin mumbled. She stood and walked to the back of the row. She picked up the index card on her new desk and put it on the one she was sitting in before Victory walked in. Victory. That was an intimidating name. Serin wasn't sure what her course of action was, yet, but she felt her walls sliding right back into place.

She hated, hated people. Serin's face changed- her light smile dropped immediately into a frown and her eyes seemed less warm than they did before. It couldn't be helped though, she'd been burned too much in her life to let anyone push her around or get under her skin anymore. She'd steel herself for the sake of self preservation, it's just what she did.

Sitting in the very back of the classroom now, Serin put Cain on her desk so that he was facing her. "I can't wait to dream tonight," she said to him. Her eyes closed and she leaned her head against his stuffed one. "I want to see you again," she mumbled. She imagined Cain, the non stuffed animal one. His dark hair covered his face and she could only see his wicked grin. His twin cat ears twitched occasionally on top of his head.

Liebchen... he said. She smiled and pressed a kiss to his head. He always made her feel better.

She glanced up to the front of the classroom. Mrs. Pope still looked a little nervous, but worlds more confident than she did earlier. She grinned and gave a thumbs up to her, holding Cain with her other arm. She held up his stuffed paw and waved.

[Metella Pope]

Metella gave a sympathetic look to Serin, and a "Why are you here" look to Victory. Victory was an intimidating name, but word on teachers lounge was it fit... very well. You could tell by everything but the randomly colored hair that Victory was a natural athlete. She couldn't come in a room without being intimidating.

Metella was reasonably calm now, which was saying something, seeing that moments ago she was begging a student for help. the fact that it was Latin made her feel at home, comforted... as if the students weren't there.

In the back, where Serin had moved, she watched the teddy...thingy... was that a cat? Whatever, she watched it wave itself little paws. With Serin's help of course. She smiled and waved a pinky back. How could she have even been nervous before? Oh well, she had been nervous before, and that was no lie at all.

She still wanted to give Victory detention. Do they have detention here? She hoped they did. "Mrs. Victory. adepto laboro. iam!" She gave a curt look to the girl. ""Discedere ad inferos." she whispered. (Translation... Go to hell.)

[Aries Neo Calisto Sumpters]

Aries breathed a sigh of discontent. The boy was late again to class. It was like he had some curse about slipping and falling down and off of everything. Today he had found himself down two flights of stairs. Day 4, and he had found himself no more ensured of safety than day one. Alone, frightened, Aries felt the closing doors on the life he had built for himself. Reality was far beyond what he had thought he could manipulate.

What magic could he weave?

He slipped in the door like he was trying to slink into an enemy base. The little albino boy was attempting to hide from the world entirely, but with how late he was, it was impossible. Again, all eyes on him. He turned his head to the side and found a seat near the back, far away from anyone else and slid into the chair nervously.

[Victory James]

Victory hated the Latin teacher already. Who speaks in all Latin on the first day? Did she know English? Whatever, she wasn't interested in actually taking this class, just passing. Her mother demanded her to take Latin, though she meant Spanish. However that was pointless, Victory lived in Spain for at least 6 years of her life, she knew Spanish.

So here she was. She glanced upward toward the board in order to catch a flash of white walk by. Her skin shivered slowly, and she realized that he was an albino. Her eyes glanced down, one of the few shy moments. She tried to reassure her self. She glanced at the instructions on the board and ran her eyes at the board. Hmmmmmm. She could do that. Was this some interactive experience? She could do that too.

She picked up her book and and walked over by the boy. "Um. Meus nomen est Victory. Tu nomen est? Her eyes brightened and she smiled at him quickly, her teeth were white and bright, but her hair had gotten into her mouth, it was orange and nasty. She spat it out a little, a tiny drop flew on the boy. "Sorry."

[Aries Neo Calisto Sumpters]

Aries was showered with a bit of backspray when the girl walked up to him. He flinched a bit, but it wasn't the worst thing he had ever experienced, he supposed. He brushed his hand through his hair and glanced up, trying to get his surroundings. He hadn't quite read the board yet--it was hard from back here. He rubbed his eyes a few times--this was the reason he sat in the front, but today had not been a good day all around.. not that any of his days at Somnium had really been good ones yet.

"Uhhh..." The boy squinted, leaning forward. He pulled his fedora off and set it on the desk, letting the white hair fall naturally to the back of his shoulderblades. "... M... Mi... Meus nomen... est... es... t... Aries! Aries!" He squeaked his name out the second time, realizing the first time he had barely whispered it while trying to read the board, "..Oh. Your name is V.. Or, or... Tu nomen est Victory? ... Hi."

Aries rubbed his head--the little bump from the first day's excursion with the art class door hadn't yet gone away. Not even after three days. The teacher was new--they had been with some stand-in teacher his first couple days of class, he thought.

[Victory James]

Victory wanted to bust out laughing. This boy was just as pathetic as she was hoping he wasn't. She glanced up to wards the teacher. "OK, listen, I'm supposed to pass, so we're supposed to have a conversation in Latin, but I know none OK. So get out your book and look interested. Move your lips or whatever and I'll nod and be like whatever. I can act while I sleep."

She closed her eyes slightly and moved her lips, she wanted to see how much she could phase this kid, he was pathetic.

Aries stared at Victory for a minute. He blinked and for a moment, he questioned his hearing. Then he processed what she was doing. She was literally going to pantomime talking to him until the end of class. Did she think that would really work? What about tests? Did she think about those things?

It didn't matter. She was going to get him in trouble, and he could honestly do nothing about it. She'd singled him out, chosen him. This was so bad. He flipped his book open, and began to read. He didn't have to talk to her, then, if her plan went over. He could still learn by reading the book, and the book was much closer than the board. HIs nerve-wracked double vision was fading. He could just disappear into the book and ignore the intimidating woman over him. This school was hard enough without provoking the wrath of the women inside it.
