character basics
NICKNAMES: Amelia is what she prefers.
AGE: Three hundred seventeen years, to be precise, but she only appears in her young thirties, perhaps.
GROUP: Dream Being.
SPECIES: Witch (she specializes in fortune-telling), though she looks just as natural as any mortal human.
OCCUPATION She does ask for money when she tells fortunes, so I suppose that could be considered a job.
GENDER: Female.
PLAY-BY: She's hand-drawn.appearance
Amelia looks like any natural mortal human, as far as basic appearances go; she's not some kind of wart-faced, green-skinned witch, or anything outrageous. She's a rather tall woman by a few inches, but nothing extraordinary, as well as on the skinny side. Green is her favourite colour, so typically, she wears a strapless dark green old-fashioned dress. Her hair is about waist-length and very dark, but it usually reflects the light (especially the candles she prefers to have around when she reads fortunes), so one cannot always tell. Her eyes are rather large and very green, and she tends to wear green lipstick. There's also quite a few golden and silver bracelets on both her wrists, simply because she doesn't want bare arms.
Someone might infer that there's something "mystical" about her, though nothing about her regular features is, in fact, mystical. It could have to do with the fact that she's a witch and, having to support herself, wants to make money with fortune-telling, so it's very possible that she has enchantments on herself to attract others -- not in a seductive way, but in a "something's telling me I should stop by this place" kind of way. She smiles quite a bit, but it normally appears more mischievous than it does friendly.personality
She might be described as greedy, though it's not an immense amount of greed. Regardless of who visits her (or whether it's for shelter or for a fortune-telling), she ask for some sort of payment in return. She would take the very cloak off a man's back as payment if he had no money or instrument of knowledge; she believes that work of any kind, no matter how thorough or hard it is, deserves payment. Give her what she wants, though, and she will never back out on her word. Amelia follows a moral code in that respect: she's true to her word, and she would never lie about her magic.
The witch isn't very nice, but she's not exactly mean. Amelia simply keeps to herself in a way that deters others from her past or her desires. She'll do what's asked of her or complete her job; unless it's vital to her duties, she doesn't make "idle chat," nor will she discuss the past. Occasionally, for philosophical purposes, she might discuss politics or answer questions, but if it's truly a waste of her time, she'll avoid it as best she can.
She's also very passionate about what she does. Greed itself, as was stated, is not what she pursues; in fact, she would prefer knowledge over money. She collects ancient thinks - from books to scrolls and maybe even something important to a person that has a lot of history - and she doesn't mind criticizing those who lack in the intelligence department. Her patience can be very thin if you antagonize her, but she tends to have more fun with stressful situations than she does anxiety -- in fact, Amelia tends to cause them to other people. Being gifted at magic, she does try and find solutions to get herself out of sticky situations. She would even play games with the king to entertain herself... but don't tell him that.family & history
Her entire family has always been around magic, though not necessarily fortune-telling. Amelia's mother was just a simple inhabitant of the world, and she eloped with some man she met by the river when she was cleaning clothes. Of course, now no one is certain whether she truly was in love with him or if he cast a spell on her -- he was a warlock (or a witch, depending on who you were asking), and evidently he was very good at sorcery. Not long after they eloped, they gave birth to triplets: all three were girls, and all three appeared to be endowed with magic, as would be expected from both parents having the gifts.
The three of them were identical in every way but one: their hair. One had very light red hair, the second had very fair hair, and the third had "the hair of a raven," as anyone else would say. They were not unhealthy or noticeably odd, and they grew up as any energetic, imaginative child does. Naturally, they adapted to magic from both their parents, excelled together, and experimented often. All three of them were exceptional magicians, and all three of them pursued a career that involved it. Amelia happened to choose fortune-telling, which she experimented on her sisters quite a bit; it appeared, though, that she actually knew what she was talking about at least most of the time. As they grew older, though, they grew apart; now, they barely have any communication (except on holidays, birthdays, and the like).
Amelia eventually organized her own home, a simple cottage for one person that rests inside of an "ordinary" Dream World neighbourhood, and she accepts anyone who wants their fortune told -- for a price, of course. While she could support herself with magic (and while she takes pride in her talents), she also doesn't want to rely entirely on sorcery, so she does enjoy payment, whether it's a coin, a book, a jewel, or just something with value.
