Solomon Trunk
“Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A pirate’s life for me.”
character basics
NICKNAMES: Solo (for his crew only), Singing Trunk
AGE: 52 years, but he look like a treasure chest.
GROUP: Dream Being
SPECIES: Cursed Treasure Chest
OCCUPATION Pirate
GENDER: Supposedly male.
PLAY-BY: Treasure chest...appearance
Solomon takes the appearance of a sturdy wooden treasure chest. There is a handle on either side and the chest has also been decorated with carvings of coiling eels. Keeping the chest safely closed is a silver circular lock which requires two keys to open. These keys are currently not in existence. Inside, the chest is lined with deep crimson silk. The contents are rare and valuable treasures, blocks of gold, pearls, daggers, fist sized jewels, coins, a dangerous looking black pistol and others.
Not being an ordinary treasure chest Solomon has quite a few distinctive features, when he chooses to show them. Firstly, the handles on either side transform into hands which can detach themselves from the main body of the chest and steal and grab anything they want. Secondly, when he speaks, the lid of the chests acts as a mouth and opens and closed to let sound come out. Thirdly, when Solomon ‘walks’ it’s more like levitating. If by chance he accidently spits one of his treasures out he will pick it up, he is very fussy with his treasure. How he sees and hears is a mystery, even to him.personality
In short, Solomon is the most pirate-y pirate of them all. Everything he does holds the essence of being a pirate whether it is talking to a stranger or raiding a shop. When he laughs he says ‘Har Har’ or ‘Yo ho!’, when he speaks he says ‘Aye’ and ‘Arr’. He lives his life by the pirate code of conduct and the laws his captain lays down for him. He may be a pirate but he is fiercely loyal and passionate who would lay down his life for his Captain and those who he considers a part of his life’s crew, that meaning friends.
Like other pirates he likes his share of rum, gold and bonny lasses. He is always quick to jump into a tavern brawl, but never starts one himself. Although quick to anger he is a cheerful person and he has never been able to hold a grudge for more than three days (Supposing the person he had a grudge on is still alive). Solomon has an extraordinary optimistic outlook on life, even while cursed he looks at the brighter side of things. Also, Wednesday night is strictly poker night. No questions asked.
Likes: The sea, rum, pretty girls, treasure, his Captain, his ‘crew’, pistols, ships, plundering, singing and apple pie.
Dislikes: Stupid landlubbers, naval officers, sneak attacks (“A real man will fight eye t’ eye with his foe!”) and women with red hair.family & history
Solomon Trunk was originally a coffin. Not the average coffin. He was an iron coffin (more like a cage) that held dead pirates until they were eaten away by the sea. Most of his life he spent hanging from the edge of a cliff, lifeless and soulless until a certain pirate, who was a son from a line of witches, was locked into him. As this certain pirate rotted away, his magical essence began to seep into Solomon’s frame slowly, but surely, giving him life. This certain pirate’s name was Solomon Trunk and with that name came the thrills, joys and horrors of being a pirate. Upon coming to life, the ‘new’ Solomon Trunk adopted many qualities from the previous Solomon Trunk, including the ability to communicate ghosts, and with that he felt the sad longing of the life as a pirate.
From that day Solomon spent a lot of time ‘remembering’ what had happened, To his mild surprise he found that the old Solomon had no regrets of dying as a pirate and with a little more pondering, he could see why. After more long years the new Solomon was wishing to strongly to become a human pirate. He wanted to be able to move and fight and sing and laugh. At the time he thought this was an impossible dream, no one knew that he was alive, no one could make him human. But a curious sea witch knew, and she granted him that wish in exchange for his ability to see ghosts. Solomon, who did not really need to see ghosts accepted and thus he began his life as a pirate.
Having all the skills that he needed from the old Solomon Trunk the new Solomon was fit to go. His was a raggedly handsome man with light blonde wavy hair, grey eyes and big hands. He was notorious for his popularity with the ladies and not before long, he found himself a crew. The Captain of this crew was a tall, broad-shouldered man named Jacques ‘Jack’ Bellamy. Jack was a hardened and feared pirate but a romanticist at heart. Solomon first joined his crew as a simple pirate who had not yet earned any reputation but he quickly proved his worth. Within seven years Solomon rose to being the master gunner of the ship and a best friend to Jack. Solomon was more loyal than any dog. Crew members came and went but Solomon served his captain faithfully, living the life he dreamed.
As pirate there was a certain dock that they visited often, calling that place their ‘home’. At a local inn, Solomon caught the eyes of a pretty red haired serving girl. The crew of The Lady Anne often stayed there only for a week, however this time they had to wait a while until the ship was fully repaired. During this time the pretty girl tried many times to seduce him only to be flatly rejected with Solomon saying ‘My heart belongs to the sea, I will ‘ave no other lover than her’.
Just as Solomon was about to depart the angered girl, who turned out to be a sorcerer, cursed him. The girl who was sad and furious beyond reason also cursed his captain Jack, who had his memory erased. By means of magic unknown to them they were transported to the fourth square of the Dream world. Solomon was knocked unconscious but when he woke up he had a great shock to find he had been turned into a treasure chest. Confused and worried, he now searches for his captain who he believes may not be too far away.
