character basics
NICKNAMES: Rose. She'd prefer not to be called Rosie, but if you MUST.
AGE: 24
GROUP: Staff
BIRTHDAY: October 16
OCCUPATION film teacher; with a few creative writing classes
GENDER: Female
PLAY-BY: >>appearance
There is no denying that the first thing you notice about Rose is her height. Standing at a whopping 5'1.5, she is not exactly the giant of the family. In fact, she is actually the smallest. Not that anyone else is particularly large, but she has always been the baby. Despite the fact that she is short, she is still rather curvy and lithe looking. She's not particularly thin, but she's not fat in any way, shape or form. She's healthy, and if you describe her as anything but, she's likely to bite your head off. Likewise, if you forget the half on her height. She gets particularly antsy about that. She's not very quick, movement wise, and does not particularly like doing anything other than the creative process. With that, she tends to slouch, giving her an even smaller appearance than usual.
Being so creative, she's decided that it gives her perfect reasoning not to be particularly well dressed. Not to say that she wears things that are unflattering, but she certainly doesn't go out of her way to look stylish and amazing. In general, she loves jeans, and whether or not they look professional enough for her job is irrelevant. She's a film teacher, it's not like she needs to look stuffy. She tries, however, to wear shirts that are more feminine instead of her usual tee shirts. For shoes, she likes flip flops and, if that's not possible, any sort of warm, casually-stylish-sort-of shoe.
Rose's hair is a dark, chestnut brown. It fluctuates from being past her shoulders to above her ears, but right now it's pretty long. Her eyes are a light blue-grey [..even though IF's are not. but they will be. >>], framed by fairly long lashes. She almost always has lip gloss with her, so her lips go from quite shiny to just a bit more...varnished than everyone else's very frequently. Unfortunately, much to her chagrin, she tends to look a bit younger than her age. While most people do not mistake her for a student, most people do think she's in university or something.personality
Rose is not the type of person to sit by the wayside and let things just pass her by. Sure, she has her lazy side and her moments, but in general, if she feels an injustice is occurring, she will do her best to stop it. She can be fairly forceful when she wants to be and, when she's mad, people will know. Despite her opinionated nature, she has the tendency to be very meek and shy. She won't generally speak to someone unless she's absolutely certain there will be a positive consequence [unless the injustice thing comes into play, in which case, try making her NOT speak]. Unfortunately, her meek and shyness does not stretch to people she already knows, as once she is comfortable, she becomes a little bit of a chatterbox.
And some of the things she says are just not very nice. Not that Rose is a mean person--she values etiquette and niceness above most other things--, she's just very...sarcastic. She doesn't tolerate idiocy or idiots and usually makes that known in her responses and actions. Most people, however, realize that it is not out of evil malicious bitchness that she does this and, thus, don't hold it against her. She's quite feisty, from the top of her head down to the bottoms of her feet [which isn't a very long way away], which people don't realize. With the way she carries herself, most people expect her to be meek and weak-spirited and, while she is generally fairly shy and quiet at first, it is easy to tell that she is not just a dud.
She's got a huge imagination, which is probably why she loves film so much. nothing is too outlandish for her, so long as it's not scary. That is something she will not abide by; she's easily terrified and quite paranoid. Quite a bit more paranoid than most people know, though it's not to the point where people would notice by looking at her. She doesn't twitch like she's on a constant caffeine high, thanks very much. Rose is one of the people that it is extremely easy to talk to, simply because, though she tends to ramble copiously, it also makes her like to listen. She won't judge based on problems, though she won't sugar coat her advice either. She's opinionated on everything and will gladly let you know, but she'll be a shoulder to cry on if you need it. She's there for anyone, really, whether she actually has an emotional attachment to them or not.family & history
FATHER: Robert Macallis; 55
MOTHER: Suzanne Macallis; 54
SIBLINGS: None
OTHER FAMILY: Yep. >>
HISTORY:California.
Rose had a fairly normal childhood. Having no siblings, she was the apple of her parents' eyes, but that didn't mean she was spoiled. They were good with discipline and always fair, so Rose has never been one of those stereotypical princessy only-daughters. She was, however, always doted on in some way, shape, or form, be it with compliments or attention. Again, not that she was spoiled, but her parents always liked to make sure that she was loved and supported. Even as an infant, she took to things quickly and learned fast, so they were always congratulating and helping her along the way.
She went to preschool and carried on being one of the top students in her class [..or as top as a three year old can be]. It was hard always being the smartest [ohhh sooo haaarddd], but she had her group of equally smart friends. When she moved up grades to elementary school and whatnot, she got new circles of smart friends and carried on. She was never one of those students that got into trouble and even when she got older, she never really did anything scandalous. She's sure that the worst thing she ever did was skipping class, and those times were so few and far between, they're hardly worth mentioning.
And this general sense of goody-goodiness carried on through college. Her parents were so proud when she applied and managed to get into three different highly prestigious schools [and numerous other backups], two of which were actual ivy leagues. In the end, she decided on NYU, right smack in New York City. She loved college, despite the fact that it was difficult to leave home, if only because she loved the City. It was hard to be in a place that was now cold and industrial instead of warm and beachy, but she took to it quickly all the same. It was so exciting, being where everything happened, and as the years went by, the more she loved it.
Unfortunately, things happen and, in her senior year, one of her closest friends passed away. It had been hard on everyone, but Rose took it the worst, because she'd been with him. Walking along the city streets was just as dangerous as it always had been, so, when they'd decided that it was time for a real New York bagel, they didn't think of any possible impending doom. However, doom was impending and, as they walked, they heard the screech of tires skidding across asphalt. They hadn't taken into account that it was late at night; he was just glad that Rose wasn't going out by herself. But with a late hour comes the intoxicated and before Rose could even shout at him to get out of the way, he had thrown himself on top of her and taken a terrible hit from the car.
The last thing she could recall before she lost consciousness was the sound of sirens wailing closer. When she awkoke, she was in a hospital bed, achy but alright. She had a concussion, she was sure, and her arms and legs were scraped up pretty badly, but other than that, she was healthy. She was concerned, however, about him. Where had he gone? Was anything broken?
It turned out that mostly everything was broken, not that it mattered. He had died seven minutes after they'd gotten him onto the medical table and they'd wheeled him out before Rose even knew he'd gone. The funeral was a few days later and, though she was sore and achy, she gave the eulogy. It was hard, after that, to finish out the rest of the schoolyear, but there was no way she was quitting now. For fifty grand a year, she was not about to stop in her last semester. So for the next few months, she threw herself into her work, managing to get two degrees. She almost considered not graduating and merely carrying on to get more degrees, but she was advised by numerous people not to do that and so got her diploma.
Unfortunately, there was not much to do in the film and writing industry for a depressed, recent-college graduate, so Rose had no choice but to go back to college. She wasn't particularly upset by this fact and, indeed, the fact that she was in school and had something to do did far more for her psych than anything else. Through all of this, despite the inner turmoil, she had managed to remain quite as bubbly and feisty as she'd always been, though perhaps a bit more sardonic and cynical. Most people, however, despite her pleas for normalcy, tended to treat her like a ticking time bomb, so when she went to this new university , she was glad that she was finally around unknowing people.
She managed to get a degree in education in record time. Doing summer school and online classes cut two and a half years off of her time and, soon, her parents were urging her to go out and get a job that wasn't waiting tables in the local Applebee's. This was, she knew, the best idea out there, but that didn't make it any easier. She knew where she didn't want to go, but that didn't mean she knew where she wanted to. So, with hardly any options left, she did the only sensible thing she could do. She put a map on the table, taped it down, took a push pin, and blindly selected a country. Luckily for her, it landed on one that spoke English and so, about a month later, she was preparing to move into her new dorm at Somnium Academy.dream form
The dream world is the place where all of your inner demons can be let forth and this is no different for Rose. While she normally manages to keep her temper in check in the real world, this is not the case in the dream world. Indeed, she is herself, but with her temper magnified to epic proportions. She takes the phrase "breathing fire" to a whole new level since, in the dream world, she can actually breathe fire. Well, maybe breathe is the wrong word, since she rarely expels it from her mouth, but she can definitely shoot fire from most places in her body. And with that, she loses one of her most valued traits--her compassion. This makes her dream form a ruthless, burning fiend. :]
