Ok. So I have this idea for a character. I'm gonna give a bunch of background now, so stay with me guys .
Three characters, actually. In Wiccan belief, there is a goddess that is split into three women; the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. I think that's right, I checked it on wikipedia . Terry Pratchet used the idea for his three witches; Granny, Nanny and Magrat (later Magrat left and was replaced by Agnes).
Agnes is the Maiden. She blushes at any indication of sex, and is the youngest. Her predecessor was Magrat. She too was the youngest and in the first novel to feature her, her love interest was a major plot line. Both Maidens were intelligent, and knew a lot about the modern world that Granny and Nanny did not.
Nanny is the Mother. She is usually simple minded, is the matriach of a huge clan of sons and grandchildren, etc. She has been described as 'having mum written all over her'. She makes coarse and vulgar jokes and gossips. When the others need some sense wacked into them, she'll be the one to give them a motherly dislipinary slap. In terms of power, she is the middle child.
Granny is the Crone. She is no fair maiden and definately won't be marrying soon. She is the crotchety one, also the wisest and most powerful of the three she.
After Magrat has a child and retires from witchcraft, Granny thinks she is being replaced, with Agnes being the maiden, Magrat being the Mother, and Nanny being the Crone. It is mentioned in the book that they do not really need to physically agree with these decriptions, like the Mother could simply be someone with maternal instincts, not an actual mother, while the Maiden doesnt necesarially have to be a virgin, just not a whore. and the crone could be twenty, just really Crone-ish. It's what they're mentally designed for.
So, after boring you with that summary, here's my idea. Me and two others create a coven of witches, one with each of those characteristic traits. There could be some form of weakness that if one of their roles was broken via character development, their power was too. They wouldn't need to stick together like glue, just meet every few days and team up in danger or if they just want to cause havoc or help people. What say you lot?
The general idea. It's Mother, Maiden crone clockwise from the left.
Phew that was long *mops head*
UPDATE (18.05.09): the positions of Dream Being Maiden and Crone have been filled by Mark playing Nessie Vaile, and November playing Althea Aelfwine respectively. We are currently in need of a Mother. Sen has expressed an interest in the Mother, but until she contacts me or November to put a proper reservation on her, she is technically free. In regards to her PB, I have some ideas for some motherly celebrities:
Mary Steenburgen
Annette O'Toole
Kathy Najimy
21-Jun-09 EDIT: All three slots of the Dream Being Coven have now been filled with:
Mark playing Nessie Vaile, the Maiden
November playing Althea Aelfwine, the Crone
Clare playing Maia Morgan, the Mother
However, there is still the 'fan club' with all three postions to be filled. People who've shown an interest are:
Tope, for her Aya.
Dani, for her Leyah to be Maiden or Crone.
To summarize the fan club, it's three girls (possible leeway for a feminine boy) who've seen what the infamous Witches do and adore them. They meet up like the Witches, pretend to/try to do witchcraft, fill the 3 roles, etc. You can change some of it around of course, but you get the basic picture we're going for.
