Sports.
The bane of her existence it felt like...and definitely the only time she could really call herself accident prone. It was the only time she was up for a jammed finger or scratched up knees. There wasn't really anything she showed promise in, but she always tried anyways. Her brother was a soccer player, a professional on to bat, but that didn't stop him from being good at pretty much any sport one could think of. It was embarrassing to have him beat her her down at a game of her choosing...each...and...every time. So she decided that she would practice a few times a week so that the next time they meet...she might have a flying chance. You know...after hell boiled over and pigs flew.
So it seemed that she had through enough bricks to build a new house for one of the three little pigs. She was out of practice and out of her league. The room echoed mockingly as she bounced the ball, thinking to try something new. Her brother was tall and so was she....she should be able to dunk the ball at least...right?
Taking a few steps forward, she started into a light job towards the basket opposite of her. She fought a little to keep the ball headed in the same direction. She got close to the basket , catching the ball and jumped up to dunk the ball, but the ball ended up spinning from her finger tips and over the backboard. She landed and shortly after so did the ball...on the crown of her head.
Rubbing her head, she sighed regretfully. Walking over to the ball that happily bounced over to the nearest wall, she sat down next to it her bright blue hoody and capris an ink blob amongst the white wall. Anasi had been there for an hour with no real belief that she was any better. The cool air conditioning and the cool floor both helped her cool off though...and look forward to tomorrow.
She pulled her hood over her head in shame and thought about what she could be doing wrong. The girl had all the makings of a sports superstar, long legs and arms, well spaced digits...but...she'd never have the skill it looked like. That gene got left in the womb she supposed.

Raine came into the gym and looked around. She loved running around like a idiot, yelling at people. More then once had she been caption of the soccer, football, and baseball team. She was such a tomboy when it came to things like sports.
She decided to play a game of basketball. She noticed a girl with her hood up. She looked a bit down. She was beside the basketball so Raine walked over.
"Hi," Raine said and went down to her knees in front of the girl. "Can I use the ball?"

Too busy wallowing in her own self pitty, Anasi barely noticed the blond heading her way. She looked up as she was addressed. It was ball-10 Spidey-0 today. It was probably about time she gave the ball up...before it literally knocked the sense out of her...like it had done so many times before.
"Oh sure...you can have it. Its uh been on the winning side of the game...heh heh..." she laughed awkwardly. Picking up the ball she tossed it to the blond girl. "Maybe you will have better luck than I did--no sucker punches..."
Standing up, she started to move out of the way...She knew she was subject to be hit by a stray ball sitting under the hoop.

Raine grabbed the ball sitting next to the girl. She was pretty in Raine's eyes but looked like she wanted to belong somewhere. Weren't we all?
"One of those balls I see," Raine laughed lightly. "Maybe I can whip it into shape." She tossed it in the air. "Even if I'm a ball to the face person."
Raine put herself in front of the hoop. She took a deep breath. Pretend this is the big game, she thought to herself, last shot to win. She let half of her breath out. She gave it a shot and the ball left her hand at the right time. She watched it and it bounced off the backboard into the hoop. She let her breath out.
Raine went to go get the ball. "You want to try again? Maybe I got it whipped," she giggled.

Anasi had leaned up against an a joining wall, watching the girl. Yea she did a whole lot better than she did. It sounds like she is saying alot there...but she really wasn't. Really though, Anasi sucked at basketball. Though this girl didn't seem like she was a pro herself.
She pulled back her hoody, letting her violet locks flow down her shoulders as she walked.
The girl didn't look half bad at it. Though maybe she was judging a little by looks. Maybe they could get started on like some kind of one on one or a practice hoop round.
"Do you play much?" asked the girl, noticing the ball wasn't fighting her.

Raine smiled at the girl who was coming closer. She had never seen violet hair before. It was wonderful and it framed the girls face. She didn't look like the sporty type but then again neither did Raine.
"I use to play with dad and my friend when I was little," Raine said, "but not much anymore. I mainly play soccer."
Raine bounced the ball that was in her hands. "You play much," she asked the girl in front of her.

"Me?" Anasi asked, cocking her head a little. Her first instinct was to say "Oh no...definitely not! I'd rather floss with fishing wire than play a sport..."
As usual, she found her self deciding if she should go about twisting her words and spitting out the wrong ones or something different than she felt. It was only cause the girl caught her off guard. Like she would want to play a sport...how preposterous. Though...the girl didn't know and it can be assumed that any person that does something when they don't have to likes it. Though...how would you explain to a stranger that oh...I am doing it so I won't be such a loser later...
"O-ooh Me? Yea...I play a little...Just a little nutsy...I mean rusty," Anasi lied, running her fingers through her hair, obviously feeling a little nervous cause she felt the need to lie of something so small.
"My name is Anasi...though you can call me Spidey--you know...since Anasi is the story about the spider and yea..." she ended up trailing off, looking at the ground, realizing she was starting to ramble.

Raine listened to the girl in front of her. She could tell that she was feeling a bit nervous about something. Raine just didn't know what there was to be nervous about. If she didn't play that was fine and nothing was wrong with that. Either way, weather the girl was lying or not, Raine let it go.
"You must have not played in a while then," Raine smiled at her.
"You know I have never heard that story," she said after Anai looked at the ground. "Your name is really pretty. I'm Raine."
Raine bounced the ball once then let it rest in her hand. "Here catch," she said and tossed the ball to the Anasi.

The very outgoing blond lifted Anasi's mood a little. Just a little. Its just always good to have someone to talk to. Not only that, she didn't really seem to care if she could play or not. Anasi was so used to having things expected of her that she nearly forgot what it was like to meet someone new and hear something different.
"Thanks, Mother came up with it. Apparently it was from one of her favorite bedtime stories from when she was a kid," replied the girl. "Raine is just as wonderful though."
Somehow she managed to catch the ball without fumbling that time. Maybe it was cause the pressure wasn't on as thick? There wasn't that extreme need to do anything to show off at the moment and there were no spectators to boo at her. Just her and this new girl, who randomly showed up.
"Never though I would hear myself say this but...um....would you like to play a game of one on one? Just for kicks?" asked the violet haired girl, bouncing dribbling as she walked back onto the court. It really was far from anything she would normally do...maybe it was her need to do better speaking again. Damn pride... She tripped a little, nearly loosing complete control of the ball. Quickly she composed herself, smiling sheepishly at the girl. "I'm sure that win will be easy..."

Raine watched the girl go out onto the court. She nearly tripped but caught herself. Raine smiled and knew then she had really never played. Taine kept that to herself and just kept going. If the girl wanted to talk she would, if not then it didn't matter to Raine.
"Sure I'll play a game with you." Raine said and got ready. "Just have fun okay?"

'This is going to be a very awkward match,' thought the violet headed girl as she made it to the center of the court, she motioned for Raine to join her. Anasi hadn't played a winning game of one on one in well...ever. Anasi already was up for the loose. She bounced the ball a few times, trying to get her wits about her...but alas...the game wouldn't be started.
Just as they were starting to get into it, the door to the sports room opened and a bunch of guys entered. 6 of them, to be exact.
"Hey ladies, our court. We're going to play a game of 3 on 3. Move unless you're cheering," said a greasy haired guy. Anasi recognized him as a guy that used to sit behind her in her english class. He was such an idiot. The guy was almost never paying attention or catching some Z's. He'd often ask her where they were in the books when they were reading aloud in class. Anasi rolled her eyes. He was also a prick.
"Um...last time I checked, we were here first. We're still using the room thank you," Anasi spoke up.
"Oh come on, we wouldn't want you breaking a nail or something," the guy laughed, his buddies following.
This was gonna be a long day.

Raine stopped in front of the boys who were on the court. She was shorter then them but that wouldn't stop her. She twirled her hair. "Will you please leave so we can play," she gave her best sweet talk. She touched the boy's shoulder lightly. "If I get hurt you can make it better."
She went around him and waited for him to leave. "Hey I promise you boys can play after us," she said. "It is a game to who ever gets to three baskets."
She looked at the greasy haired boy. She smiled at him. She would knee him if he tried to kiss her. She wouldn't be light about it either. She would give it to him hard. She didn't plan on getting hurt.
