Althea has a penchant for flambouyant attire and is not one for letting her age affect her dress sense--this could be considered both good and bad depending on how one looks at it. She is a great lover of feather boahs and opera gloves. Her prefered outfit colour is black.
Her hair is a wild bird's nest of tangles, half of it black and the other half a shocking white. This is her natural hair colour (or at least it has been for hundreds of years) and is thought to represent the two sides of her personality; light and dark, kind and cruel.
She stands at the intimidating height of six feet, causing her to tower above many in her proud stature. Her build is slim and still maintains the feint outline of someone whom had once had a femme-fatale figure centuries ago.
With hard and angular features Althea often appears very stern. Her complexion is exceptionally pale, contrasting significantly with her sharp and piercing almost-black eyes. She has impeccable eyesight for her age. Althea's face holds remnants of beauty long past, from the line of her jaw to the sleek curve of her cheekbones. A smile is a rare sight to see upon her visage as she is often observed with a scowl or a look of indignation. When angry her face distorts into a hag-like appearance, she often enhances this effect by magic in order to strike fear into those that have angered her.personality
Outwardly Althea comes off has a cruel and heartless old woman. She is often rude, but usually in such a subtle way that it may take a while for it to be noticed. She is brash, sarcastic and seemingly unconcerned about the feelings of others. Many may find her an imposing figure and she often gets what she wants through intimidation. This public persona is something that Althea strives to maintain.
Utilitarian in nature, she believes that the end defines the means and that sacrifices are required for the benefit for all. The only exception to this belief system she holds is in regards to the two other members of her Coven, the Mother and Maiden. She is fiercely protective over both of them, the Maiden especially whom she regards as her own child.
She is neither truly evil, nor is she truly good. Althea believes in a balance between the light and dark, thinking that neither can survive without the other. She has made it her duty to maintain this equilibrium in the Dream World, preventing it from growing corrupt like she has known the Real World to become but also providing a bit of chaos whenever she feels it necessary. She does enjoy the occasional act of vengeance. It is a very unadvisable to get on her bad side.
Althea is wise and can give good advice to those who seek it (although this advice is usually hidden behind a mask of disdain). She has been through much, and therefore knows much. She has felt both love and loss too many times to count, which has left her heart somewhat callous.
Tabocco is her vice. Althea is often seen smoking using a long and elegant cigerette holder. Her voice is somewhat hoarse and gravelly because of this habit of hers. She also enjoys dark chocolate and it is possible to bribe her with it (though only when she's in a good mood).family & history
The thing about being over a thousand years old is that one's memory has a tendency to slip. It's not that Althea is going senile for she is as sharp as ever, but it's just that no matter how sharp one may be, when one has so many memories (which Althea does) it is difficult to keep track of them all. A great many events has made Althea the woman she is now, soem of these she recalls and some forever lost in the mists of time.
She remembers being in love, on more than one occasion. Her first was was she was young, even by human standards. Althea doesn't remember much about him except that he used to fade away from the Dream World. One day he faded and never returned. It was he who first introduced her to the possibility of other worlds. Her second love was many years later, with a true denizen of the Dream World. He was mortal however, but a mere human, and he died like many humans do. He fathered her first child. Lovers came and went, some Althea cared for deeply and some less so. Some she had children with and some she did not.
She remembers her children, all of whom were now passed away to a land beyond dreams. They had all had been mortals, unlike herself, and had grown old and died before her eyes. Althea soon learnt that it was best to not love them too greatly as the loss of them would be too much to bear. She gave them away to other families, and watched them from afar.
