THE GOLDFISH GAME Everyone knows this game. It's that game that you play just so you can get a goldfish that will live for a week, tops. And you buy a bowl and food and those pretty rock things and get all excited and then, the next day, that bitch is belly up. Alas.
But even though you know that, you're gonna play anyway, aren't you? ;]
So, there are a formation of bottles and you have to toss ping pong balls. But how will you know if you make it in? Simple. Include either heads or tails at the BOTTOM of your post so that we can easily locate it and either a staff member or a booth worker [depending on who is online at the time] will let you know if you made it in, using www.random.org's coin flipper.
WORK SCHEDULE [/u][/center] Shift 1 Logan Fairfax & Xavier Kunze Shift 2 Flick Arden & Alin Forrest An announcement will be posted in this board when it is time to change shifts.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Logan tapped her toes against the ground. The large mass of fish in a large mass of glass bowls looked back at her. She glared at them. They stared back. “I’m going to kill Kyle. Its his fault I’m here. I didn’t want to sign up…” The fish continued to stare. Logan continued to glare. “I hate you..” One of the fish blew a bubble, as if mocking her. Logan signed and turned her back to the fish. At least she was only working the booth for half the day. There was also supposed to be company in the form Xavier Kunze, although Logan couldn’t remember if she had met the teacher or not before. Letting out one more sigh, Logan shook her head, clearing it. “Come on, Logan. Just pretend you’re playing a game…”Logan took a deep breath, put on her best smile, and raised her voice, “Step on up! All you need to do is toss a ping pong ball and you could win a goldfish. Heck, we’ll even let you keep the bowl its living in so you don’t need to carry it around cupped in your hands.” A couple passersby turned their heads, but no one stepped up to the booth. The fish continued to stare. “I need a drink…” Logan muttered under her breath.

outfitRose would have loved to work the carnival, no question about it. Had she gotten there in time for signups, she would have leapt at the chance, whether she'd been forced to work the goldfish booth or the basketball booth or anything else equally as unappealing. Because Rose was not a fan of either sports or fish. Which really, was sort of contradictory, since here she was, making her way to the goldfish booth.
But, while Rose did not like fish, she did like winning. And whether she was a grown woman or not [being grown was such an arbitrary concept, really], she loveloveloved games and carnivals and being able to eat more junkfood than her digestive system could handle, so really, doing anything was alright with her. Especially if it was being run by the network administrator, who she was quite surprised to see as she approached.
"Weeeell, hello!" she called as she reached, waving cheerfully. Yes, Logan was a bit of a sourpuss, but that didn't mean that Rose had to be. "I didn't expect to see you working here. Nooot gonna lie, I'm a little jealous." She gave a little infectious giggle [that was obviously brought on by the SPIRIT OF CARNIVALS] and stepped up to the table, grinning.

“Nice try.” Logan attempted to be consoling to the student who had completely missed his throw. “Feel free to try again.” she hoped the student wouldn’t and was relieved when he sighed and left. “Win a goldfish! The game honestly isn’t that hard. We’re practically giving them away…” Logan added under her breath, “I mean come on. All you need to do is throw a ping pong ball into a bowl.”
Logan was still a little miffed that she was manning the booth alone at the moment. Her inner monologue and plots to kill Kyle were interrupted by a cheerful voice and an infectious giggle. Logan turned to see Rose approaching the booth. “I didn’t expect to be working here. Our nurse has an odd sense of humor. And if you’d like to trade, I’ll gladly let you work in my stead.” Logan gave Rose her first genuine smile of the day.
“Care to try your luck? You didn’t strike me as a fish person.” Granted, Logan had only met the new teacher a couple days ago and their meeting had been brief. Logan had decided it would be a good idea to meet with the new teachers and get them onto the network right away rather than later. “Or are you having a problem with your computer?” Logan couldn’t quite keep a hint of ‘please tell me you have a computer problem’ out of her tone.

[/color][/font] aterina had been ominously wandering around the carnival, rather bored with the slow passing of time. She was scheduled to work the second shift - of which she hadn't asked for, and was a bit perturbed that she had nothing better to do with the entirety of her day. However, she was happy that she was working with ticket sales. It was a pleasing job - having to see the majority of people that came into the carnival. She had already said hello to many of the students she recognized - and a few teachers as well.
It was then that she heard a few non-appealing cheers for a goldfish game. It put a smirk on her face to see that someone who had signed up for voluntary work had been so miserable to be there. Either that, or Miss Fairfax didn't like the fishy smell of her surroundings.
Slowly, Caterina made her way to the goldfish table, looking at all the orange little creatures swimming and bubbling about in their little bowls. She lifted a brow and looked at Logan, and then Rose who approached a moment before she. Her eyes glided over the woman who seemed overly excited for the carnival. It was a bit admiring to be so zealous and charming for an event that wasn't so appealing. Simple things for simple minds, however.
Caterina smiled and made herself appear before the two of them, winding her way into the beginning of the conversation. "Well. Logan, I didn't exactly expect you to be working. You look so thrilled and pumped for the occasion." She smiled a bit, the look of 'I know I'm being sarcastic' came across her features as she looked at Rose with a small smile.

"I would love to trade!" she squealed, far more peppy than usual. Which was really saying something, as anyone who had spent more than ten minutes with her [whilst on her good side] would know. "Buuut, I didn't sign up and I don't think they'd really like that." She giggled and scooted forward, looking around at all the ping pong balls.
"Nooo, my network's fine," she said, waving a dismissive hand. "My computer was acting up the other day, but I fixed it." She turned her glance toward the goldfish. "Annnddd I want to try and win!" She beamed giving a childish hop, and picked up her ping pong balls. Tossing the first oone....

Logan perked up a little when Rose expressed her interest in trading jobs. Her hopes were cruelly dashed not a moment later by Rose’s retraction. Logan sighed, placing a ping pong ball on the counter for Rose. While Rose readied herself to potentially win a goldfish, Logan turned her attention to Caterina.
“Love the outfit, Aurora." She gave the teacher a quick once over and flashed an approving smile. "You have a shift with Kyle later, don’t you? Could you pass along a message to him for me?” Logan watched Rose’s ball sail through the air. “Let him know that I’m going to kill him. Slowly. And not in the dream world this time.” The ball splashed into one of the goldfish bowls, startling the unsuspecting fish contained within. “Huh. Nice shot.”
Logan picked up the bowl and set it on the counter in front of Rose. She raised her voice so the milling students could hear, “See? I told you it wasn’t that hard. You too can have a goldfish of your very own.” None of the students seemed to care so Logan focused on the teachers again. “Care to take a shot, Cat? Or, even better…” Logan lowered her voice. “…either of you want to help me make this carnival a little more bearable?” Logan tapped her purse, which made a muffled, metallic noise in response. “Long Islands, a la Logan.” Logan let out a low sigh of longing and pleasure, contemplating the delicious alcoholic beverage contained within her purse.

Rose squeal of excitement as she won a goldfish was short-lived as Logan's words started to sink in. It stopped abruptly and she drooped, arms halfway to her goldfish, looking mildly scandalized. She wasn't about to tell Logan what to do [she valued her life, after all], but that didn't mean that, well...
"Should you have that at a carnival?" she asked, pursing her lips slightly at the bag. "Aaafter all, it's not a long shift," she pointed out, actually reaching for her goldfish. WHO KNEW what would happen on the pets front if Logan actually managed to reach into her bag and pull out whatever flask she had.
She glanced at Caterina, unsure if the other woman was having the same qualms as she was. Sure, on any other day, she would probably have been willing to partake in drinks with Logan. Perhaps not drinks Logan herself made, but she was willing to bet that Logan preferred not sharing those anyway.
But not today. Not at a carnival. There were children present! D:

Indeed it would have nearly seemed that Alexander had a nose for beverages and substances that altered ones state of mind. Because as he was walking around the carnival he got a feeling that, despite the fact that he didn't like animals too much. The Gold fish game would be a proper place to be... Or at least at this precise moment. Getting a pack of smokes from his pocket, giving a tight tap to the back of the pack and taking one out with his lips. Shortly after however he turned to turn it on and take a deep breath full of the lovely nicotine filled smoke. As if inside a coca cola commerial he gives a content sigh before focusing upon the crowd near the stand.. If one can call it a crowd.
He grinned to himself, if ever so slightly as his eyes slipped upon the three ladies gathered at his in his mind "Absolutely useless game" Though rather than just thinking it, that was what he actually said to himself. He shook his head twice to himself and gave a slight if not sarcastic smile.
"Well ladies... Or teachers and girl... Whichever floats your boat really." He said in a rather frank manner, It wasn't that he couldn't be charming.. It was more the fact that he had a rather hard knot habbit of being rude. He took another whiff from his cigarette, blowing it out in the direction of the three.
"Tell me, do any of you three here drink?" He was expecting to probably get a wise crack answer about drinking water and non alcoholic beverages... However! He knew that was coming so he decided to add something to his statement. "Alcoholic of course, I could really use a drink, perhaps make this carnival a little more exciting that way." His intonation had given away only a hint of sarcasm, making one quite able to missinterpret his words.

outfitIt probably wasn't the best idea for Flick to sign up for the carnival, but it wasn't her choice at all that she had been assigned to the goldfish booth. Not that she minded, of course. Goldfish were delightful creatures with such beautiful scales, she couldn't think of a better place to work for a carnival on such a lovely day.
Unfortunately, plenty of people could probably think of plenty of better things for the absent-minded librarian to do. The first mistake on the part of the carnival planning committee had been putting Flick in charge of a living thing. Not that she had to see to its care, but it was very likely that she would end up taking one of the fish home, which she would never have thought to do had they not been placed right in front of her. Second, she was very likely to accidentally harm herself, the goldfish, or her partner whilst trying to be carefully and not harm any of the other three.
Numerous other things could go wrong, but it was best not to think about them. The committee clearly hadn't, after all.
And not thinking about those things was what Flick was doing as she meandered over to the booth, smiling dreamily at things no one was really sure of. She was delighted to see that there were people at the booth when she wandered over, though a little disheartened that Alin wasn't there yet. No matter, though. He would arrive soon.
"Hello," she said, her voice just as floaty and disjointed as always. She flashed Logan her dreamy smile just before her gaze focused on something off in the distance. This booth was obviously about to be superbly run.

[/color][/font] er eyes glanced at Rose as she made the shot for her fish, and albeit a bit surprised that she had a good arm, she figured it was no more because of how old she was. Only was she torn away by this thought from Logan's rather abrupt comment about drinking at the carnival. Caterina smiled slyly, almost wanting to accept the delicious and rather tempting offer, but she cleared her throat and looked away. Stress was very apparent in her life at the moment, and hell - she needed a drink.
But it was a rather inappropriate place to commandeer such a voluptuous idea. Slowly, Caterina inched herself a bit closer to the table as she saw a student prying into the conversation. It was momentary, but she swiftly laid eyes on Logan, almost letting her know that it wasn't the place - albeit she did agree that teachers needed an 'out' for fun and had every right to celebrate the carnival as much as the students - but the mere fact that setting an example for such abrupt behavior wasn't tolerable.
Caterina knew that the students drank wherever anyways. You would be ignorant to think that they wouldn't try to be teens from time to time.
Ignoring Rose, she leaned over the booth counter and lowly talked to Logan, trying to not let others hear what she was secretly saying to the woman. "Don't you think that this isn't really the place? I would love to. Believe me - I am craving a long island like you wouldn't believe. But we do have an example to withstand. We should get together later." A smirk crossed her face. Caterina then looked at Rose, nodded lightly and turned herself around.
"Looks like it's almost time for me to get to the ticket booth." She looked down at her watch and announced to everyone, looking at Alexander with an almost glare at his statement. "Hold your tongue, boy. You'd be irresponsible to be drinking at a school function heavily monitored by us all, or you'd be selfish to try and bring such attention to yourself. So which was it that you were intending? Don't be foolish."

All of a sudden, the goldfish booth had become quite busy. Logan ignored the student when he approached asking for booze. She was curious what the teacher’s reactions would be first. Rose’s was as expected, Cat’s was disappointing, and Flick, as usual, seemed to notice nothing about her surroundings. “Oh thank God you’re here.” Logan gave Flick a grateful smile and stepped out from behind the booth. “Have fun!”
Happy to be out from behind the booth and free of the wretched fish, Logan unzipped her bag, removing her flask. “An example, right…I’m just having a good time.” Logan gave Catarina and Rose a sarcastic, ‘I’m not an alcoholic’ smile. “And the kids are supposed to be having a good time. There for I am setting an example.” Logan made a mental note to invite Catarina out for drinks later. Perhaps she would invite Rose and Flick as well, have a girls night out of sorts. She took a large swig from the flask, letting out a contented sigh as the alcohol soothed her thirst. Lowering the flask and giving the other teachers a broad smile, Logan remarked “And remember, any of you see Kyle, let him know he’s dead.”
Logan finally shifted her gaze to the student who had approached. “As for you, boy…” He appeared to be of legal drinking age, although Logan could honestly care less. “Like all other things at this carnival, the drinks aren’t free. What’s it worth to you?” Logan gently shook the flask then took a refreshing sip. “And I, unlike everything else here, do not accept tickets.”

Rose was, to say the least, apalled. She was not as adept as Caterina at making such scathing remarks, at least not at the present moment when her excitement was clouding her anger and all she could really feel was her cut reaction, but she thought her gut reaction might suffice.
"People are supposed to have a good time at the carnival doing carnival stuff!" she insisted, not yet having the desire to face the delinquent student that had just appeared. She was not entirely sure that she really wanted to face him, since she did have to teach him on monday [provided he attended class]. But in the end, authority and scandalizedness won out over caution and she turned to him as well.
But by the time she'd done that, Logan was offering to sell him liquor. Rose considered fainting to take their minds off of it, but it was likely that Logan would just call the school nurse [who was probably tired of her anyway] and then go back to her illicit business dealings. Which meant that Rose would have to Take a Stand. Since the librarian didn't seem to notice at all.
"You can't do that!" she squeaked, failing to flood her voice with the authoritativeness that she'd intended. After all, both people dwarfed her quite considerably and, considering she looked younger than Alex, she didn't think anyone would hesitate to ignore her anyway.

Alex was pretty mellow as he heard the Caterina talk to him, giving a slight wave of his hand as part of his rather uncaring attitude. He reacted with a couple of words "I'll drink, i'll get drunk and you can't do anything about it." He said it normally, not agressive or angry, nor overly joyful. That was when he turned to Logan, whom seemed to have the right attitude.
"I like you already" He said straight to Logan's face. Giving a slight grin as he searched his pockets for a minute to take out a nice filled money clip. "And Of course i'll pay cash... But only if you'll drink it with me, drinking alone is such a drag." He said, not yet having paid attention to Rose, though when she started speaking he couldn't help but turn around.. Suffice to say it was his teacher and she was pretty hot, though he had to admit that quite a few teachers and students at this school had quite the physical assets.
"Don't worry Teach.. You can join us if you want, wouldn't mind seeing you get wasted." He gave her a rather sly and dirty wink with his right eye before turning back to Logan. "Don't you teach that computer stuff?" It wasn't that he was too stupid to understand what she taught, it was more a lack of interest in any of the classes he followed... When he attended that is.
"Oh btw, teach?" He turned to Rose for a sec. "I'll probably come to class on tuesday.. That's when it is right?" That was in essence the epitomy of Alex's amount of effort when it came to school.. He often forgot when teachers taught and used classrooms more often when empty than when occupied.
When turning back his attention to Logan, he couldn't help that she also was quite an attractive and mature woman.. Should be interesting having a drink with her He thought to himself, his thoughts betrayed by a small grin which arose from the corners of his lips.

It was time for his shift, to Alin's great dismay. He'd been wandering around in circles trying to win the perfect gift for Flick as he would be spending the rest of this most awesome day with her. He was frowning a bit irritably at the bright pink stuffed bear he had managed to score from one of the random vendor-kids, having not gotten a choice in the matter since the kid had been so busy running around like a chick with her head cut off. Ah, well, can't let it get me down...
He had spoken too soon, upon turning the corner, he noticed Caterina at his booth and Logan the more-than-alcoholic woman talking to some kid. Alin was batting straight for the moon--he didn't want to deal with having to monitor the two of the probable offenders and Caterina on top of it would cause Alin to just sour.. and he didn't enjoy that thought at all. He would rather have just ignored the situation altogether, and began to turn to do so, since the booth seemed well-manned, when he noticed Rose.
She looked like she was going to fall over, and she had done some sort of squealing chirp of emotional agony she usually did when she couldn't quite handle a situation she really wanted to be able to handle. Alin almost completely reworked the time-space continuum to change his pivot as smoothly as he did, barely even showing that he had any intention of wandering away. His blonde-tipped hair caught the wind as his long stride started quickly toward the group, his mind trying to figure out the best way to diffuse the situation... and coming, as always, to a quick, ideal, well-rounded end.
"Yo, Hot Stuff," he whistled a cat call over to the group as he closed with them, being loud enough to be easily heard, "Pay attention for just a minute." He closed the distance for the dealers, the lovely Logan and equally pretty Alexander Black. He didn't stop until he was right up in.... Alex's face, just a little too close, just a little too friendly. "... Dealing in alcohol on school grounds is usually worth an expulsion, not to mention your... particularly vulgar way with the ladies." He hissed the last word into Alex's ear, his breath just a little too warm on the boy's cheek.
"I'd be... careful, but as long as you break rules ... elsewhere, I might be inclined to let your cute little cheeks get away without a thorough bit of lecturing..." The whole way about Alin was high-school sweetheart. Anyone watching would have easily gotten the inclination Alin and this boy were having some sort of not-so-secret affair.
Through the sunglasses, invisible to any of them, Alin kept looking up at Rose for the inevitable calm. There was a certain amount of desperation in how he felt, wanting her to be alright to the point of causing such an uproar, but Alin couldn't imagine an outcome worse than Rose crying. Somehow, he never wanted to see that point again, and he had avoided it for years. Today would be no exception; he wouldn't let it.

Logan was about to reassure Rose that she would take her illicit dealings elsewhere, but was interrupted by Alin’s whirlwind appearance. Logan grinned to herself and stepped aside. Much like an actual tornado, Alin was more fun to watch than be in the path of. She slid close to Rose’s side, watching Alin work his magic on Alex; although she would never admit it aloud, Logan was a little jealous that Alex was the focus of Alin’s charms.
Teasing Rose had been fun, but Logan didn’t want the teacher becoming hysterical or crying. Talking another step towards Rose, and speaking out of the corner of her mouth so only she could hear, Logan whispered, “Calm down, I’m not going to sell students booze here. Do you really think I’m that crass?” Logan’s face lit up in a sarcastic smile. “On second thought, don’t answer that.”
She raised her voice so the rest could hear, “Pleasure to see you as always, Alin. Try not to traumatize the boy too much. He may be rude, but he may also have cash.” she gave the two boys a strange half smile. “I’ve got a raid in half an hour. Should any of you need me, I’ll be in the lab.” Giving the assembled group a wave, Logan turned. She began to walk back to the school, smiling at the mental image of Alin and Alex having a one-on-one teacher-student session.

While yes, Rose was not a fan of the dealings going on, it was completely untrue that she was going to cry. she was sensitive, sure, and a bit flusterable and high strung at times, but definietly not that ridiculous and certainly not that offended by what was going on.
She was, however, glad to hear that Logan was not intending to sell students alcohol, although she was unsure how long that particular phrase would really be true. And the instinctive pursing of her lips was answer enough to Logan's question on crassness, though she would have never gone so far as to say it out loud. At least not in front of all these people.
Perhaps it was to divert some attention or perhaps it was because, somewhere in the back of her mind, she was afraid that Alex was going to kill Alin. No matter the reasoning, however, Rose stepped up, despite the fact that it was totally rude to interrupt a conversation [no matter how one sided], and waved to Alin.
"Hiii!" she said cheerfully, clutching her goldfish in the other hand. Maybe that would help calm things down a bit.
