Another day, another bad night. Paris had arrived early--as he was to everything. He pushed the dark hair out of his face wearily and looked around at the depressingly empty expanse of booths. They'd been set up for a little while, and he wasn't quite sure how long anymore. Days blurred constantly for the poor teacher, the pieces of the puzzle oft falling just out of place and looking much like a Picasso painting.
He drew his fingers across the smooth counter top of the booth and tested the chairs, settling himself into them and staring up at the tarp across the top, protecting him and whoever his colleague might be from the blazing sunlight. This carnival was going to be a long day followed by a dance for the students. A smile graced his soft lips, those lashes daring to close for a moment of brief serenity.. but behind closed eyes waited his nightmares, and he quickly snapped those large blues back open to stare about, breaking his serene look with dilated pupils that searched the shadows for a crawling spirit.
Cruelty was truly that Paris understood the monster. Stripped of hate, he was left with nothing but truth and unspeakable chaos in his soul. Why did every day have to be.. so long?

Kyle approached the ticket booth, looking a little out of place in his jeans, black t-shirt, and black lab coat. Even if he was working a carnival booth, Kyle was still the school nurse and he would have felt naked without some bandages, antiseptic, and various other medical items stored in his pockets. He was feeling rather cheerful today; he had actually been able to sleep the night before and, for once, hadn’t died. Its amazing what a good night’s exploration of the mists could do for a person.
When he reached the booth, he waved and gave Paris a broad smile. “Good afternoon.” Kyle stepped behind the booth, taking off his lab coat. He carefully draped it over the back of one of the empty chairs. “Has it been busy so far?” He studied the other teacher for a moment. Paris seemed a little more tired than usual. Perhaps Kyle wasn’t the only one who had troubles in the Dream World. Still, it wasn’t in his nature to pry, so he filed the observation away and returned his focus to the carnival.
Kyle took a seat and waited for someone to show up looking for tickets. Catarina should be arriving any moment. Kyle was also expecting a visit from Logan, provided she wasn’t drunk already. A smirk crossed his face as he pictured Logan working the goldfish booth. It was going to be a good day.

Paris had been there a while, and regardless of the absence of his helper, the whole place was pretty low-maintenance so it had required little energy and flew by pretty easily, with a good number of smiling kids passing by and Paris having some small talks with some of the ones he had known, he was a little surprised to see Kyle walking up to the booth already. Paris ran his hands through his hair and made himself look chipper, though he felt the facade was nothing short of fake, even to the most dull of people, and Kyle was not dull.
"Good morning--ehr, afternoon, Mr. Ehrlich, it's been fairly smooth sailing." Paris gave the other man a warm smile before holding his hand out to shake the other's in greeting. Paris wasn't sure what he'd do with the rest of his morning, but he had to pick up the small mess he had left of energy drink cans that hadn't quite made it into the trash bin that he had been throwing them at a bit playfully. "Have you been around to any of the other booths, yet? Dr. Peterson didn't show, so I'm a little concerned about him. but I'm sure it was just a busy night and he slept in." Paris wandered back to the trash bin and knelt down, picking up the various drink cans and bottles that were littered about it, along with some other people's trash that hadn't quite found its way into the bin. His slacks and sweater were a bit off of the normal style for the teacher, but not by enough to cause alarm. He finished cleaning up his small corner and brushed his bangs back away from his face, noticing the sun for the first time as he had been standing beneath the tarp this nice, cool morning.
