appearance

Sebastian is the tall, dark and handsome type. He has a very imposing physique, standing at around six feet three inches tall with a slender build. His hair his a deep brown and is styled to reach below his earlobes. It is occasionally gelled back. Sebastian's eyes are equally as dark as his hair and can look almost black in certain lights.
His complexion is fair and practically void of any blemishes. He makes sure of this by moisturising every day and applying anti-wrinkle cream despite the fact that he is only eighteen years old. Sebastian takes very good care of his appearance, almost to the point of obsession.
Clothing-wise, he sticks to wearing smart-casual outfits in his free time. He would never be seen in loose slacks, stained shirts or any other equally thoughtless attire. Sebastian believes that looking good is one of the most important attributes of a person and he takes pride in making sure he constantly looks his best.

personality

Sebastian is possibly one of the most polite young men one would ever have the pleasure of meeting, or at least that is what he appears to be. He is a charmer and is exceptionally good with words, using them to his advantage whenever possible. His charm is further added to by the vast arsenal of compliments he has tucked away in his mind for whenever they are required. Compliments, Sebastian has learnt from a young age, are amazingly productive tools of persuation and he uses them often. Most of the time he doesn't really believe any of the compliments he says but he figures as long as he says them with a smile and an air of sincerity he will be believed.
He is a natural actor. Able to portray a vast range of emotions at a drop of a hat. In most social situations Sebastian is acting, whether it be as a respectable student, a kind youth or an understanding young man; in fact he has a great collection of ready-made personas for most every occasion. He is rarely ever not acting when in the real world.
Because he is constantly playing a role Sebastian finds it difficult to describe his true personality. Deep down he is tired. Tired of having to make an effort and tired of acting how everyone expects him to. Deep down he wishes to do what he wants, but the thing is he has no idea what he wants. His whole personality is a confused jumble of desires and protocol. He can be cruel and spiteful, but all behind closed doors. When someone is in his way he will aim to bring them down, but always under the guise of trying to help so that no one ever suspects him of doing wrong. He is bitter and jealous, but never lets it show. In privacy he often crumbles into fits of emotion, like every thought and feeling he had suppressed that day is unleashed in one quick wave of passion. Then, a few seconds later, he would bottle it all up again as if it had never even occured.
Sebastian enjoys the struggle of others as it makes him feel superior. The sense of superiority is his ultimate joy, whether it be socially, intellectually or sexually.
All in all Sebastian is his own opposite and his own worst enemy. If he ever let his true self show it would destroy everything he had strived so hard to maintain. Therefore his whole life is a falacy upon a fallacy.

HISTORY:

Born an only child to a wealthy and respectable couple, Sebastian was raised in a world full of charity balls and social occasions. In this world everybody was out to raise their own social standing and Sebastian's parents were among them, revelling in their glamourous lifestyle. They raised him to be the same, to care about what others thought and to strive for respect wherever he was. Sebastian's father, who was a successful politician, molded his son from birth to follow his footsteps. He was strict, constantly pointing out Sebastian's mistakes and correcting them, not allowing his son to show any signs of weakness around others. Sebastian's mother supported her husband in every way, even when his father would strike Sebastian for incorrect posture, bad grammar or other things that would make his son appear anything but a respectable and polite boy.
It was his father's relentless drive that pushed Sebastian into becoming the epitome of perfection. Sebastian worked hard in school, getting the best marks year after year. He also was active in a lot of extracurricular activities and was quickly growing into one of the best young sport stars in his area. Of course he never went further to improve his sporting abilities as that was not the path his father had intended for him. It was politics where Sebastian was headed.
Once Sebastian reached his early teens it soon became evident that he was growing to be even more attractive than his parents combined. Sebastian's father told him to exploit this gift to the best of his abilities and Sebastian oblidged. The teachers loved him, the girls wooed over him and the boys respected him; everything was going as planned. That was until Sebastian turned fourteen years old. It was then when he had a mental breakdown.
The event occured during school hours and it is not entirely known what had triggered it. Perhaps it was the teachers constantly asking Sebastian whether he would volunteer for events, or the sports club pleading for him to play for them that afternoon, or everyone else asking for him to do something. Most likely it was an amalgamation of all of it, and the some. Sebastian snapped. Everything that followed was a haze of noise and unrelated sights. By the end of it all Sebastian had a broken hand. Apparently, although he can't remember any of it, he had been punching the wall and yelling nonsensically.
After that event Sebastian's father sent him to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist suggested starting again from scratch, in a new town and a new school. Thus Sebastian was sent to Somnium Academy.

dream form

The first event Sebastian ever remembered attending was to see the musical The Phantom of the Opera with his parents. His Dream Form is an imitation of that very phantom. A mask covers the top half of his face and although it is possible for him to take it off in the Dream World he chooses not to for fear that it may be terribly scarred or deformed. He is garbed in sophisticated clothes and seems older than his real world age. He goes by the name of Erik (which was also the name of the "phantom" in the musical). Erik is somewhat of a sociopath and all own cares about is his own pleasures. He is even better at words than Sebastian, his speech in the Dream World often very lyrical, as if speaking in song. Erik has no inhibitions, especially considering he is unrecognisable as Sebastian. Therefore he indulges himself in activities that Sebastian would be too careful to partake in in real life, knowing that in the Dream World he would receive no real retribution for his sins.
The reason for this particularly form is because of Sebastian's feeling of always wearing a mask, although a metaphorical one, in the real world. Erik is the darkness that Sebastian is trying to maintain, he is the extreme of what could be Sebastian's true self. The side of Sebastian that was hinted at when the young man was only fourteen.
